Effect of Music Intervention on Anxiety in Patients Undergoing Periodontal Surgery: A Pilot Study| Stephy Publishers

Image
Journal of Dental Research and Oral Hygiene - (JDROH)   | Stephy publishers Abstract Objective: The effect of music listening on blood pressure (BP), heart rate (HR) and anxiety level (AL) was investigated for thirty patients undergoing periodontal surgery. Methods: A total of sixty patients referred for periodontal surgery were randomized into two equal groups as i) without music (control), and ii) with music (test). Before and after the procedure, BP and HR were recorded. All patients responded to AL assessment using facial image scale (FIS) before and after surgery. After listening to music before and during the procedure BP, HR and AL were assessed for the test group. Results: Systolic BP (SBP) in both groups increased but showed no statistically significant difference between the two groups (p>0.05). Diastolic BP (DBP) increased after treatment with no statistically significant difference (p>0.05) between test (4.70 mmHg) and control (6.20 mmHg) groups. HR decreased after

Accuracy Assessment of Free PSA Density for Prostate Cancer Detection in Male Patients with High PSA| Stephy publishers

Image
Open Access Journal of Urology and Nephrology  |  Stephy Publis her Abstract: Background: Prostate cancer detection is currently based on serum PSA with a digital rectal examination which is neither specific nor sensitive, which caused many unnecessary prostate gland biopsies that are highly expensive and can result in unwanted complications. Serum free PSA increases with a larger prostate gland, yet declines with a gland that contains cancer cells, thus prompting the hypothesis that calculating the ratio of serum free PSA against prostate gland volume provides the so-called “free PSA density” which can be utilized to improve prostate cancer detection. Methods: Male participants were deemed eligible if they are at risk of prostate cancer with a PSA level of 4-10 ng/dL and aged between 50-75 years. Serum PSA and serum free PSA were obtained concurrently, followed by transrectal ultrasonography for prostate volume calculation and biopsy of the gland. Also reported are the sensitivity, s

Purple Urine Bag Syndrome, Report of One Case| Stephy Publishers

Image
Open Access Journal of Urology and Nephrology   | Stephy Publis hers Abstract: First described by Barlow and Dickson in 1978, the purple urine bag syndrome (PUBS) is an infrequent condition that even if it ́s benign, it seems to be alarmant. It consists on the purple coloring of the urine inside the colector bag, which is the result of a chemical reaction between the enzymes that produce phosphate and sulfates, the patient’s diet and the intestinal transit. Keywords: Urine, Urinary Catheterization, Urinary Tract Infections, Prostration, Antibiotic

Variation in the Multivariate Relationships Between Serum Amyloid, Haptoglobin and Biochemical Profiles of Aborted and Non-Aborted Cows | Stephy Publishers

Image
Archives of Dairy Research and Veterinary Science - (ADVS) | Stephy publishers Abstract: Because the time in which gestational loss or bovine abortion occurs is associated with multifactorial causes, the objective of this study was to assess multivariate relationships between the biochemical profile and acute phase proteins in aborted cows. We performed monitoring and monthly blood sampling during gestation in 140 dairy cows. A total of 18 cows aborted, which were considered ‘cases’; retrospectively, we used samples from 29 ‘control’ cows, which were taken at the same time. Thus, we compared multivariate relationships between the two groups, to evaluate variables potentially associated with cow abortion. We classified abortion as either infectious (due to DVB, leptospirosis or neosporosis) or non-infectious (protein or energetic imbalance evinced in metabolic profile). Of the 18 cows that aborted, there were 6 with evidence of positivity or seroconversion to the analysed diseases, 13

Impact of Patient Centred Care in a Dementia Ward in an Acute Hospital | Stephy Publishers

Image
Innovative Journal of Neurology and Neuroscience - (IJNN)  |  Stephy Publishers Abstract: The older persons with dementia will occupy more hospital beds in the years to come. Caring for a patient living with dementia is challenging for the hospital staff, especially for those exhibiting neuropsychiatric symptoms. Providing person centred care has been recognised as the ideal model of care for the persons with dementia. However, this care model is time consuming and requires training and education. Provision of good care in the hospital for the older persons with dementia include avoidance of restraints, prescription of psychotropics, in-hospital fall reduction, minimising risk of cognitive and functional decline with discharge home to their families and loved ones.Person centred care is effective in the acute setting, with proper training, guidance and leadership. Keywords: Dementia, Falls, Restraints, Person-Centred Care, Neuropsychiatric Symptoms. Read more: # Neurology #Neuroscie

Dementia in Parkinson’s Disease: it’s Therapeutics | Stephy Publishers

Image
Innovative Journal of Neurology and Neuroscience - (IJNN) | Stephy Publishers Abstract: Background: Dementia is a cognitive degenerative disease generally associated with Alzheimer disease, but victims with Parkinson’s disease also develops dementia at the latter stage. Dementia associates with irreversible loss of memory, and no medicinal cure is yet available. We here put some light on possible cell therapy for dementia. Aim: Neural stem cells are multipotent cells which are capable of self-replication and differentiation into neurons, astrocytes or oligodendrocytes in the central nervous system. They produce Dopamine, neural factors, and therefore, one can expect that NSC transplantation can ultimately provide a better therapeutic approach in the treatment of dementia as well as Parkinson’s disease (PD). Methods: We discussed the merits and demerits of using hNSCs cells over other possible candidate cells. Results: As we found that hNSCs can secrete Dotor (BDNF) and Glial cell-De

Recommendations for the Aluminum and Iron-Containing Composite Flocculants-Coagulants Use for the Purification of Natural River Waters and Industrial Wastewater| Stephy Publishers

Image
Journal of Environmental Science and Research - (JESR) | Stephy Publishers Abstract : Coagulation is the most widespread method of natural and wastewater purification from the bulk of colloidal, finely dispersed, and partially dissolved contaminants. The characteristics of the new composite flocculants-coagulants ASFC and ISFC developed by the authors compared to traditional aluminum and iron salts are given. The characteristics of natural waters, which were used to study the efficiency of using the obtained flocculants-coagulants, are given. To compare the effect of the developed materials with known products, we used such a parameter as their coagulation ability to purify high-color water from the Orsha river and medium-color water from the Volga and Tvertsa rivers in Russia. An attempt is made to assess the effect of magnetic treatment of the developed composite flocculants-coagulants. Based on the conducted research and production tests, recommendations were developed to use alu

Stephy Publishers | Sanitary Sewer’s Infrastructure in the Brazilian Semiarid Areas and its Consequences for People’s Health: The Case of the City of Santo Estevão-BA

Image
Journal of Environmental Science and Research - (JESR) | Stephy Publishers Abstract: This research aims to Identify the areas with higher shortcoming in distribution of sanitation’s services, especially those related to the sanitary sewer and the main consequences to people’s health. The study’s field bounded three neighborhoods from Santo Estevão city (Alto do Porrão, Mutirão and Pau de Vela). For data collection, geoprocessing was necessary through the Global Positioning System (GPS), Cartography and Geographical Information System in order to demarcate the points relating to the water’s spatial distribution. Therefore, the areas with a significant frequency of diseases due to the lack of sanitary sewer were described in order to build thematic maps. The methodological procedure used was the case report because of its enabling nature to investigate the phenomenon here described, and also considering that city’s population was directly involved with the research. For data collecting

Image
Journal of Environmental Science and Research  | Stephy Publishers Abstract: The entire surface of the earth is visited by the birds in view of their aerial flights and variable habitats in search of suitable breeding and feeding grounds. Flight, intelligence, adaptability and sight are some of the attributes that add to the diversity in the life of birds, consequently there is complexity in their overall behavioral pattern. The key objective of this study was to assess the weaver-bird crop-raiding activity in Buea municipality on different environmental parameters. The study was undertaken for three months, six days in a week, from 7:00am to 6:00pm. Scan observations were made on birds’ activity on a five-minute interval period across the entire study area. Simultaneously, data was collected on the environmental conditions. The study recorded a significant association between weaver-bird activity on crop-land, X2 = 11.653 df=14, P < 0.005 and X2 = 3.441 df=4, P<0.05 respecti
