Dental Roots: Formation, Lengthening and Malformations of Roots| Stephy Publishers

Image
SOJ Dental and Oral Disorder  - (SOJDOD) |  Stephy Publishers ISSN 2768-6221 Abstract The Hertwig’s Epithelial Root Sheath (HERS) includes two layers: the Outer Enamel Epithelial Root Sheath and the Inner Enamel Epithelium Epithelium (IEE and OEE). They contribute both to the root formation. The inner columnar epithelial cells (IEE) of the dental papilla are formed by cells located near the dental papilla. They are at the origin of odontoblasts expressing FGF-4, -8 and -9 and at later stages BMP-2 and BMP7. The Outer Epithelial cells (OEE) express SHH, Msx2, enamel matrix proteins, paxillin, and Pax-6. When the cells of the HERS dissociate, intercellular spaces enlarge. Cells migrate from the epithelial sac, and underwent phenotypic inter conversion into cementoblasts and later cementocytes. The Hertwigs enamel epithelium contributes to cementum formation. Epithelial rest of Malassez is remnants of the Hertwig’s root sheath. They are im...

Effect of Music Intervention on Anxiety in Patients Undergoing Periodontal Surgery: A Pilot Study| Stephy Publishers

Image
SOJ Dental and Oral Disorder  - (SOJDOD) |  Stephy Publishers ISSN 2768-6221 Abstract Objective:  The effect of music listening on blood pressure (BP), heart rate (HR) and anxiety level (AL) was investigated for thirty patients undergoing periodontal surgery. Methods:  A total of sixty patients referred for periodontal surgery were randomized into two equal groups as i) without music (control), and ii) with music (test). Before and after the procedure, BP and HR were recorded. All patients responded to AL assessment using facial image scale (FIS) before and after surgery. After listening to music before and during the procedure BP, HR and AL were assessed for the test group. Results:  Systolic BP (SBP) in both groups increased but showed no statistically significant difference between the two groups (p>0.05). Diastolic BP (DBP) increased after treatment with no statistically significant difference (p>0.05) between test (4.70mmHg) and cont...

A Comprehensive Review on Classification of Oral Ulcerative Lesions| Stephy Publishers

Image
SOJ Dental and Oral Disorder  - (SOJDOD) |  Stephy Publishers ISSN 2768-6221 Abstract A brief overview of the superficial oral lesion Objectives: Oral mucosal lesions are a broad group of lesions which are located in the soft tissues of the oral cavity identified by its specific etiology, clinical manifestations, differential diagnosis and treatment. White lesions of the oral cavity constitute a rather common group of lesions that are encountered during routine clinical dental practice. The process of clinical diagnosis and treatment planning is of great concern to the patient as it determines the prognosis. There should be in-depth knowledge to the consultant about the varied clinical features, etiology of the disease and various treatment plans. Clinical diagnostic skills and ideal judgment forms the key to successful management of white lesions of the oral cavity This review will discu...

Desensitizing Effect of Sodium Bicarbonate Mouthwash in Patients with Dentinal Hypersensitivity–A Clinical Trial| Stephy Publishers

Image
SOJ Dental and Oral Disorder  - (SOJDOD) |  Stephy Publishers ISSN 2768-6221 Introduction Dentin Hypersensitivity (DH) is a major complaint of the general population. Reports have indicated the incidence of DH is 4 to 74 percent of the population. 1  It poses a challenge for clinicians because its presentation is ambiguous with no specific signs. 2  Dentists rely on the patient’s clinical and dietary history and a thorough intraoral examination using thermal and tactile stimuli. Dentin receptors have a unique feature of eliciting pain as a response to any environmental stimulus. The sensory response in the pulp cannot differentiate between heat, touch, pressure or chemicals, because they lack specificity. Irrespective of the type of stimulus, the patient perceives any stimulus as a pain. 3  Hence careful examination should be performed to rule out other condition s which present in a similar manner to DH.                                      SOJ Dental and Oral Disorder  - (SOJDOD) |  Stephy Publishers ISSN 2768-6221 Abstract The impact of cigarette smoke on bone grafts in implantodontics has been discussed in the scientific literature. The present study aimed to evaluate bone repair in calvaria of rats after the performance of critical bone defects and graft of bone ceramic biomaterial in animals exposed or not to cigarette smoke. Bone defects of 5mm in diameter were made in parietal bone. Each defect was filled with Bone Ceramic biomaterial. Twenty rats were used and divided into 2groups: test, consisting of 10rats exposed to cigarette smoke; and a control group, consisting of 10rats not exposed to cigarette smoke. The animals were euthanized in the 4 th  postoperative week and bone tissue samples were extracted to perform the histometric analysis. The tes...

Comparison of Flow and Solubility Properties of Mineral Trioxide Aggregate Cement with Two Additive Plasticizing Agents: An In Vitro Study| Stephy Publishers

Image
SOJ Dental and Oral Disorder  - (SOJDOD) |  Stephy Publishers ISSN 2768-6221 Abstract Proposition: To evaluate the physical properties of flow and solubility of pure and improved mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) cement with the addition of two plasticizing agents: sodium ether polycarboxylate and sodium naphthalene sulfonate at three different concentrations. Material and Methods: Flow and solubility tests were carried out using the established methodology recommended by the 57 ANSI/ADA and ISO 6876:2012 standards. Pure MTA was used as control group and was compared to the MTA containing sodium ether polycarboxylate and sodium naphthalene sulfonate at concentrations of 0.5%, 1.0% and 1.5%. Data were analyzed by one-way analysis of variance followed by a post-hoc Tukey test at a 5% significance level. Results: Sodium ether polycarboxylate increased the MTA flow at the three concentrations. The flow increased with increasing concentration (P<0.05). Sodium...

SOJ Dental and Oral Disorder  - (SOJDOD) |  Stephy Publishers ISSN 2768-6221 Abstract Impaction of Maxillary Permanent incisor due to super numrary tooth is not a common entity encountered in dental practice but when present, it poses a disturbing esthetic dilemma to children and their parents. Early diagnosis and interception in these cases is the best way for their management. The purpose of this report is to describe the diagnosis and the clinical management of an impacted supernumerary tooth, which impeded the eruption of the permanent maxillary central incisor. Keywords Dentistry, Tooth, Treatment Introduction Super numerary tooth, or hyper dontiais defined as a development a anomaly of number characterized by the presence of an extra tooth in addition when compared to the normal formula. 1,2  The termmesiodens refers to a super numerary tooth located in the anterior region between the maxillary central incisors. It presents clinically the most ...
